Can I give CBD to my children?

We are often asked whether it is safe to give CBD to children.  Although we only sell to customers aged 18 or over, we are aware that many people do buy CBD for other people, including children.  So, whether it is for better sleep or to help with anxiety, what are the guidelines for a child who might take CBD?

There are some well published studies of CBD-based medicines being given to children for conditions such as epilepsy, seizures or autism but that is not what we’re talking about here.  Consult your doctor for those matters.  What Zoetic products are generally taken for is to help with general health and wellbeing.

First of all, Zoetic CBD will not make your child feel high.  All of our products are completely free of THC, the psychoactive component in cannabis plants.  We use CBD isolate so what you are getting with Zoetic is just that – CBD in its purest form.  Other companies supply a “full spectrum” CBD product which will contain other cannabinoids, including THC, which you may not necessarily want your child to have.  If you are buying your CBD online then only shop with reputable sellers who display the laboratory reports for their products on their website.  Make sure you know what you are taking, both for yourself and others.

Research on CBD isolate has found it relatively free from side effects which should help reassure any parent giving their child CBD for the first time. The World Health Organization has also recognised CBD’s good safety profile and lack of toxicity in a report in 2017.

Secondly, please don’t give your children CBD if they are on other medication.  See our post in May about that as it is important, and all the more important with children, to check with your GP or doctor first to ensure there will be no interaction between the CBD and their medication.

Thirdly, start with (and maintain) a low dose.  The FSA’s advice in the UK is that an adult should have no more that 70mg of CBD per day.  In fact many adults find they get the benefit of CBD on far less (I take our 10mg softgels for example and only have one a day).  So, bearing in mind your child’s size, almost certainly a much smaller dose will be needed.  We know that some of our customers like to use our gummies – apart from tasting fantastic they can also be easily cut into smaller sizes as required.  Our melon and blood orange CBD oils may also be a good choice to appeal to children’s taste.

You can also mix our CBD oils with food or put a few drops in a glass of milk (we don’t recommend mixing with water though as the CBD tends to stick to the side of the glass).

As usual, we need to remind you that our products are not intended to diagnose, treat or cure any disease.  We are not doctors and nothing we have said in this blog should be taken as a substitute for medical advice but hopefully we have given you a few things to consider if you are planning to share your CBD with your children.
